Platforms for Change is a collaboration between the Community Rail Network, the wider rail industry, and the Scouts, which will see groups ranging from Squirrels to Explorers visiting their local stations and engaging in community rail activity. Groups can use this as a new and different place to work towards a range of badges, not just the Rail Industry sponsorships, all while giving back to the local community.
This Track and Train Team Pin Badge is a non-programme pin badge that can be added to camp badge blankets, ponchos, bags, caps, and other casual clothing or accessories. The Platforms for Change Blanket Badge is sold separately.
Track and Train Scheme
Learn how to become a Track and Train team member and earn your volunteer hours for higher awards.
Have you decided to work towards a higher award and need to choose an activity for your volunteer hours? Why not join the Track and Train team? You'll teach younger groups about the importance of being safe around the railway while earning your volunteer hours.
What is the Track and Train scheme?
This new scheme, in partnership with the rail industry, is designed to spread important rail safety messages to groups while helping young people complete their volunteer hours for their higher awards.
Why is learning about railway safety so important?
Every year the rail industry experiences over 19,000 trespass incidents across the network. Since 2017, there’s been an average of 4,032 incidents per year involving young people under the age of 18. That’s 77 incidents per week where young people are putting themselves in serious danger.
These incidents happen for various reasons: a dog running onto a level crossing, people taking a shortcut across the tracks, collecting a ball that’s been kicked onto the railway, or even trying to get a perfect backdrop for an Instagram photo.
Some of these incidents result in life-changing injuries or, tragically, a loss of life. Many of them could be prevented through improved rail safety education and awareness.
