Scouts are celebrating International Women’s Day on March 8th with the launch of a brand new Blanket Badge. The badge design features four diverse young women wearing Scout neckers, spending time together and connected through friendship. This year’s global theme, Give To Gain , highlights the importance of generosity, teamwork and community – values that sit at the heart of Scouting.
International Women’s Day is a chance for us to recognise the achievements of women and girls within Scouting, raise awareness of gender equality, and continue building an environment where everyone can thrive.
There’s still a common misconception that Scouts are boys, but at Scouts, we welcome people of all genders. In fact, we’re the largest mixed-gender youth organisation in the UK. You can find out more about how we support girls and women in Scouting on our equity, diversity and inclusion pages.
Our founder, Robert Baden‑Powell, said it best:
“I think girls can get just as much healthy fun and as much value out of Scouting as boys can.”
Today, with your support as volunteers, we continue to make that a reality.
