Show you have the knowledge and skills to go on a camping adventure. This isn't just about taking part in a camping trip - this activity tests your ability to prepare everything you need for a night sleeping under the stars.

How to earn the badge:

• Camp under canvas as a Scout for at least 15 nights. You could camp in a tent, or try something new, from hammocks to bivouacs, or even indoors.
• Lead a group of Scouts in the pitching, striking and packing of a four to six person tent.
• Find out what to look for when choosing a campsite and in deciding the best position to pitch tents.
• Show that you understand and act on the reasons for hygiene and the importance of being safe and tidy in camp.
• Show how you store food hygienically at camp.
• Learn how to dispose of your rubbish safely and responsibly.
• Construct two useful camp gadgets, such as a camp larder, altar fire, flagpole or a camp gate.
• Plan a full menu for a weekend camp. Cook a full meal from it over an open fire.
• With others in your Troop, plan and carry out a programme of activities for a weekend camp.

The Gas Distribution Networks (GDNs) and the Scouts

The Gas Distribution Networks (GDNs) have partnered with The Scouts to support the Camper Activity Badge for Scouts and Explorers, helping young people stay safe while camping. Through this sponsorship, GDNs are raising awareness of carbon monoxide (CO) and how to reduce the risks when using camping stoves and heaters.

By learning how to use equipment safely, spot the signs of CO poisoning and take simple precautions, Scouts and Explorers can keep themselves and others safe outdoors.
