Swimmer Stage 2 Activity Badge 

With plenty of practice and a little confidence, gain a swimmer stage badge as you learn to swim with speed and an expert stroke.

At Scouts we're updating the requirements to earn the Swimmer Activity Badges. There will be a cross over of how to earn the badge until August 2025, until then, you can choose to use either set of requirements.

You can view both set of requirements to earn the badge below.

How to earn the Swimmer Activity Badge - Stage 2 (updated Jan 25)

1. Learn about where to swim safely in different locations and find out some safety rules for a swimming pool. 

2. Take part in a warm up before getting in the pool. 

3. Demonstrate how to get in and out of the water safely without support. 

4. Swim 10 metres on your front, with or without support. 

5. Swim 10 metres on your back, with or without support. 

6. Perform a log roll of at least 180 degrees in the water, either on your front or on your back. 

7. Show a push and glide into the middle of the pool on both your front and your back. 

8. Retrieve a floating object, starting from the side of the pool, with your face submerged in the water. 

9. Float on your front and then your back and hold for at least 5 seconds. 

How to earn the Swimmer Activity Badge - Stage 2 (Original requirements, can be used until Aug 25)

1. Learn the general safety rules for swimming (such as not diving into shallow water or not swimming on your own) and where it is safe to swim locally.

2. Show you know how to prepare for exercises such as taking part in a warm up.

3. Demonstrate a controlled entry or dive from the side of the pool, into at least 1.5 metres of water.

4. Swim 10 metres on your front, 10 metres on your back and 10 metres on your back using only your legs.

5. Tread water for three minutes in a vertical position.

6. Surface dive into at least 1.5 metres of water and touch the bottom with both hands.

7. Mushroom float for ten seconds.

8. Enter the pool and push off from the side on your front, gliding for five metres.

9. From the side of the pool, push off on your back and glide for as far as possible.

10. Swim 100 metres without stopping.

11. Take part in an organised swimming activity.
