How to make your own Advent Calendar

Share
Christmas season is around the corner, and what better way to count down to Christmas Day than with an Advent Calendar!
To make Christmas extra special this year, why not do away with the traditional chocolate calendar and make your own Advent Calendar instead? Fill a reusable Advent Calendar with a small scouting surprise to open each day, or include 24 new activities for your little one to try. Bring the festive cheer by designing and decorating the calendar together as a family, and remember to pack the calendar away safely, so you can re-use it again year after year!
To help you out come 1st December, our Scout Store team have carefully pulled together six alternative Advent ideas for you to try yourself.

1. Wrap a new book to open every day

We have an exciting new range of books to gift this Christmas; from Ordnance Survey adventures to helping our planet, let your little one's imagination run wild whilst learning something new every day.

2. Build your own Scouts Advent Calendar

Fill a reusable Advent Calendar with small accessories perfect for Scouts. From festive blanket badges to adventure kits, Scout Store have everything you need to hide behind each door.

3. Advent Acts of Kindness

Not every calendar needs to include sweet treats. Spread the joy this Christmas with 24 different acts of kindness for your little one to do every day. From making Christmas cards for your neighbours to donating cosy clothing to charity, show your community spirit this Christmas.

4. Scratch off a festive activity each day

Our Scratchvent Calendar guides you through 24 activities to do throughout the festive period. From going to a Christmas Carol concert to making reindeer food, you'll be sure to keep up the festive fun this December. Why not buy the matching blanket badge to give as an extra treat on Christmas Day!

6. Reverse Calendar

Switch receiving gifts this advent to donating an item each day instead. You can donate to your local food bank, animal shelter or local charity by collecting 24 goods in the lead up to Christmas. Generally, non-perishable items with long use-by dates are best, however ask your local centre for what they need most! Drop your goods off at the end of Advent and enjoy Christmas knowing you may have helped somebody in need.
