A step-by-step guide to ordering personalised badges

At Scout Store we are delighted to offer our customers a new personalised service creating custom printed cloth badges/patches for everyone - not just for Scouts. As a trusted, well-established retailer who knows a lot about badges (ask our Scouts!), you can be reassured that quality and care is guaranteed on every order you place with us.

What to expect when ordering your badges

To ensure we create and deliver the badge you are expecting, we ask you to please follow the below simple steps:

  1. Design your badge and save it as a Vector file, PDF, AI or EPS format. You will be able to find instructions on how to do this online if you get stuck! Please note any specific colour matches using Pantone references on your file so we can ensure an exact match.

  2. Select your desired shape, size and quantity of badges on our website and add to bag..

  3. Place your order for your badges through our website. Payment will need to be made at the time of ordering.

  4. Our Customer Services team will contact you for the badge design file. Please remember, the badge will exactly replicate your digital design so please send the best and final version, specifically checking for any spelling mistakes or errors!

  5. The design will then go into production.

  6. Despatch and delivery.

We aim to despatch and deliver your badges within 4 to 5 weeks from receipt of your badge artwork.

What is a Vector PDF, AI or EPS file?

A Vector file usually consists of shapes, lines and text. It is a format that can be resized without usually any impact on the quality of your image.

PDF: A Portable Document Format is commonly used in Adobe Acrobat, and can be saved from many applications as an alternative to printing.

AI: A file created in Adobe Illustrator.

EPS: Encapsulated PostScript file. This is an older format but still used.

Your design: All you need to know

Heat Transfer Printed Badges - With heat transfer printing, the design is printed directly onto the fabric of the badge, reducing the potential for loss of clarity that you may get with woven or embroidered badges.

Colour Accuracy - The printers will endeavour to match colours as closely as possible. As mentioned previously, if you require a specific colour match please include a Pantone colour reference on your artwork.

Text legibility - For best results, we recommend leaving a space between text and the border. Please also ensure there is sufficient contrast in the text colour to make sure it is legible. A dark green text on a dark blue badge background is probably not the best choice!

Border - The border can't be printed however if you would like to include a border in your design, the printer will choose a thread to closely match the colour chosen. If no border is included in your design, the border thread will be matched as closely as possible to the background colour of the badge.

Photos - Please be advised that reproduction of a photo on a badge is not as detailed as a regular printed photograph.

Limitations - There are no limitations when choosing colours for your design and you can add any text and approved or owned logos and emblems.

Design Service - Please have your artwork ready before placing your order. Unfortunately, Scout Store is currently unable to offer an artwork service to turn your ideas into print ready files.

Artwork Examples - What to avoid!

Be sure to check your artwork carefully.
