Shere Khan
Shere Khan, Shere meaning tiger in Urdu or Hindi, is a fictional tiger of the South Asian jungle, named after a Pashtun Prince, Shere Shah Suri, Kipling encountered on his trips to Afghanistan. He is Mowgli's chief protagonist in the two Jungle Books and is known for his arrogance and regards himself as king of the jungle.
Having failed to kill Mowgli, Shere Khan comes to a sticky end, and is eventually skinned by Mowgli having previously trapped him in a narrow canyon with the help of Akela and Grey Brother, and where he is trampled to death by the buffalo.
