We’re excited to share an important update about the future of Scout Store and what it means for our colleagues and the wider Scouting community.
Scout Store will soon be moving into a new, purpose‑built home in Lancing - a major milestone for our organisation and for the wider Scout Association.
This new development will become the Sussex base for both us, Scout Store, and Unity Insurance Services, who are also a subsidiary of The Scout Association. It represents a significant investment in our people, our operations, and our commitment to supporting young people through Scouting for many years to come.
The redevelopment project will begin in June 2026, with delivery complete delivery planned for late 2027.
Why change is needed
Our current building, constructed in the 1970s, has served us well over the decades. However, it has now reached the end of its usable life and is no longer fit for purpose.
The limitations of our existing facility mean our operations and production are spread across multiple sites in West Sussex, creating operational inefficiencies and making collaboration more challenging. The building also falls short of modern standards for sustainability, energy efficiency, and workspace design.
Despite these challenges, we are committed to remaining firmly rooted at our home in Lancing Business Park and to securing our long‑term future here. To do this, we need facilities that support our evolving operational needs, environmental commitments, and ambitions for growth.
The solution: A sustainable purpose-built facility
The new redevelopment has been designed to support collaboration, operational efficiency, and future growth by bringing office space, production, and a state of the art warehouse together under one roof. By consolidating multiple production sites and offices into a single, integrated building, we’ll be able to work more effectively and sustainably towards our shared goal of making Scouts a place to belong for young people
Key features of the new facility include:
• Modern, flexible office spaces designed specifically for the needs of our hybrid teams
• Upgraded operational facilities, including space for in-house manufacturing, media production, and a state of the art warehouse
• A strong focus on sustainability and environmental performance, helping us meet our environmental goals
• A minimum BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating, an internationally recognised standard for sustainable buildings
• On site renewable energy generation from the use of solar panels
• A landscaped garden designed to increase biodiversity, planted with species that support local wildlife
Investing in the future of Scouting
The new development has been designed to meet the needs of Scout Store and Unity both today and in the future. Modern, energy-efficient offices will provide a better working environment for employees, while upgraded production and warehouse facilities will enhance operational capabilities. Together, these improvements will empower our work, helping us better support Scouting and young people across the UK.
This new purpose built home marks an exciting next chapter for Scout Store, Unity Insurance Services, and The Scout Association. We look forward to sharing updates as the project progresses and to building a space that reflects our values, ambitions, and commitment to the future of Scouting in the UK.
